Am I missing something?

I know I am a critic, but isn't the whole point of a blog like this to take questions and criticism and explain the proposal and discuss it?

What better way to convince potential Corzine voters than to take questions from the public and answer them in the public, no?

(at least Corzine has venue for this, I can't find a Forrester blog)

Yes, that's why I'm here.  I'm glad you found your way over here from the Barista.

(as un-"accusatory" as I can ask)

The average indivdual FamilyCare cost per in New Jersey is $3877.  Times 200,000 (subset Corzine says will be added to FamilyCare) people is $775 million dollars per year. Yet Corzine's plan says it will only cost $15 million  for those 200,000 and 576,000 more.

Before the "savings" from Corzine's proposed effienency measures what would the cost be to add the 576k? Because by my math it is like 3 billion per year.

1) Is Corzine saying he can save $2.985 BILLION per year in cost saving measures?

2) is the 3 Billion figure wrong.  If it is what is the correct (pre savings) cost?

got answers

Here's what Curtis wrote:

Cover about 200,000 children and pregnant women in the traditional FamilyCare system that will maximize federal money (65%) and take advantage of a federal "waiver" for the state costs (35%). Legislation to implement this initiative is cosponsored by Republican Senator Tom Kean Jr.   A similar effort to secure the federal "waiver" was recently signed by Missouri Republican Governor Blunt.  No state costs.

Not an answer

We read what Curtis wrote.  Requoting him does not answer the question.
What nobody can understand is how this federal "waiver" of state costs (which the governor apparently has to request) saves any money.  Given that you have to put quotes around it, how real can it be?
As Right of Center pointed out, the average cost to insure a single FamilyCare customer is $3877.  If our portion of that cost is only 35%, then that means New Jersey must obligate $1357 per insured.  That's $271.4 million to cover 200,000 people, assuming that the feds pay up their 65% ($504 million).
Can you cite CFR on this?  Maybe point us to the program description that allows states to somehow avoid this cost?

Where did you get this number: $3877?

The average cost of providing coverage to an individual through FamilyCare is $3,877 a year. (Proposed New Jersey State Budget, FY 2006, page D1)

At that cost adding 200,000 will cost $775 million.  So leaving aside (for the moment) the additional 576,000 people Corzine wants to also provide coverage for, where is the extra $760,000,000 per year going to come from?  All I can find is a vague claim of saving 10% in administrative costs. None of your links go into detail.  Will that cover the $760 million?

You keep saying that we already pay for indigent care at the ER anyway.  How much?  None of your links cover that.  How much do the 200,000 people already cost the system? None of the links cover that.

Simply, where (specifically) will the $760 million (for only the 200,000) come from?
