Health coverage stats - ages 55-64

I hope these statistics will help in crafting a health insurance plan that includes 100% of Americans, including those over 45 and not yet eligible for Medicare.   I hope that these statistics will provide an input for the Corzine policies on health insurance.

The website of the National Administration on Aging, a federal agency, lists the following information.

In 2002 12% of people age 55-64 were uninsured.

In 2003, of people 55-61, 74.9% of men were in the workforce, whereas 62.5% of women ere in the workforce.  Of people 62-64, 49.6% of men and only 38.6% of women were in the workforce. The website gave no information about the percentages of working people whose employers do not have a health plan available.

The National Center on Women and Aging website report entitled "If I can just make it to 65"  cites the statistic that among uninsured 50-64 year olds, 23% said they had lost their jobs or changed jobs or that their employer did not provide coverage.  And this was before the recession and the downsizing that started in 2001.

The same report by the National Center on Women and Aging said that in 1992 (well before the recession beginning in 2001) 845,728 women between the ages of 55-64 in the US (9% of women in this age group) had no health insurance.
