Forrester fumbles Gov.'s role in war issue

Forrester did a complete fumble on the war issue, pretending that the Governor plays no role on the issue. Apparantly the millionaire drug executive is not aware that the Governor and the legislature have to sign off on activating the National Guard for active duty. Worse, he said nothing about the considerable sacrifices that National Guardsmen have had to make. There are at least 8 dead guardsman from New Jersey, and one Sgt Frank Carville was a behind the scenes peacemaker for the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland. Corzine was at Carville's funeral, where I saw him personally, and he was unobtrusive, just trying to help out the family.
Republicans have been trying to politicize the activations, and troop call-ups have had soldiers have to sit through Republican speeches, as they have used the national defense issue to appeal to their base. Forrester had nothing to say on the issue that the war was initiated on false pretenses,
that the vp is under suspicion for having initiated the falsification, and that a CIA operation was compromised to settle a political score.
It is quite likely that the Republicans will try to further politicize the defense issue just before election day. But Forrester certainly had nothing to say on trying to save Ft. Monmouth, which is one of the major resources for electronics in the nation.
Forrester made it clear that not only does he not oppose the war, but that he is ready to send more New Jerseans to fight it, even knowing what we now know about the falsification of the "intelligence" reports on uranium from Niger--now known to be utterly false. Forrester made no mention of the sacrifices of the parents and grandparents of the troops serving overseas--and didn't even bother to acknowledge any awareness of the stress this causes. Totally out of touch. He treats people like so many pills from a pharmaceutical plant. Kudos to Gabe Pressman for forcing a debate that stressed both the candidates.
